The nation's premier Wine Country, the Sonoma and Napa Valleys just north of San Francisco, offers a fantastic blend of
scenery, climate, quiet winding roads, hills and valleys, coastline, redwood forests, and historic sites. With a large and beautiful
hotel placed in a location central to all this wonder, NAMGAR and the MG Owners Club are excited to offer you the next great MG
adventure, set for the first weekend in October. Arriving in the late afternoon or evening of Thursday, October first, you'll meet
other MG owners in the Hospitality Suite and in the reserved parking area at the Doubletree Hotel, Sonoma Wine Country, in Rohnert
Park. This Mission-style hotel has 245 rooms and plenty of space for activities, both indoors and out, and will serve as our base of
operations for the weekend.
Friday starts with a guided tour to some area
wineries, and includes a lunch stop. If you'd rather explore on your own,
several self-guided tours of the area are available. Destinations include the Charles Schulz Museum in nearby Santa Rosa, Muir Woods
and Mt. Tamalpais parks on the Marin coast, and the Sonoma and San Rafael Missions. Friday night, we take a scenic drive through
vineyards and redwood forests to the town of Occidental for a wonderful dinner at the historic Union Hotel, located in hills just above
the Russian River. A logging and farming community in the 1840's, Occidental began as a lumbering town but transformed to an artist
colony and tourist destination over time. The Union Hotel has remained in the same family for five generations, offering hearty
Northern Italian meals with the traditional red and white checkered tablecloths and wine bottle candlesticks. The back bar was originally brought 'around the Horn' and remains, along with other antiques and a historical archive of local
photographs.
Saturday begins with a popular-vote car show held on the hotel grounds. A car wash facility is available at the hotel, but after the
Friday drives, bugs can be a badge of honor. Technical sessions are scheduled for Saturday afternoon, or you can take some time off
for
a dip in the hotel pool, sightseeing, or whatever strikes your fancy. Saturday night is the Awards Banquet at the hotel, followed by
more hospitality in - where else? - the Hospitality Suite. Sunday morning we gather for breakfast and farewells. The award winning cars will be on display at the hotel's porte cochere that morning for photographs. For those who wish to linger, many self-guided activities still remain. The San Francisco Bay Area MG Owners Club invites you to MG 'A' Classic Vintage - don't miss it! |
